The canal is acting as a sand filter as the water rushes over it, it is becoming much cleaner; the sandbags are also acting as a sand filter and cleaning the water. This area on the other side of the sand bags has become a bird sanctuary, as the water is much cleaner after filtering through the sand bags, there are live fish and after many years.

They put out large areas of tall grass, cut and places in the water, the birds are nesting on it. So now there is also a great Vrindavan bird sanctuary.

Shrimati Radha Rani Jee had tied a knot Matrimony with Shri Shri Shyam Sundar Jee, on the Basant Panchami of the year 1580 A.D after Her self manifestation among the valuables in the Treasury of the then king of Bharatpur. After that, Gaudeeya Commentator, incognitable metaphysician and vedantee, Shrila Baldev Vidyabhushan Pada had enthroned the Big Shri Vigrahas of Shri Shri Radha Shyam Sunder Jee in the Temple on the Basant Panchami of the year 1719 A.D.

Basant Panchami is, therefore, a very auspicious and important day for Shri Shri Radha Shyam Sunder Temple and devotees.

WVA Mayapur meeting - March 2012

Dear vaishnava acaryas, sannyasis, secretaries of different Missions and secretaries of Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha - World Vaishnava Association:

As you may have heard the year 2011 was the historic year of the struggle by the Russian Orthodox Church to have the Bhagavad Gita banned and placed on a list of prohibited books deemed by the courts to be of a destructive nature.
The special Gita under attack was the world famous Bhagavad Gita As It Is by Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Fortunately, many missions and sympathizers of the Indian government protested this case all over the world and subsequently the ruling was found in favor of the book.

This is an example of how we are always under attack by materialists when we actively propagate the message of Lord Chaitanya as He had foretold. So, let us strengthen the unity in diversity of the World Vaishnava Association - Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha to always be ready to protect our dignified history and our associate’s activities.

Another very important and historical event took place in Vrindavan recently. The return of Yamuna to the ghats project. A mega project started by Mr. K.P.S Gill and Srimati Chandi, instigating the rescue of the holy river to flow again in front of the ghats instead the choking sewage water. This dham seva was blessed by the Acarya of Gaudiya Sanga, Srila Sadhu Maharaj who was personally digging mud in the dredging.

And it is for this purpose that Srila Jiva Goswami started an organization which connected the followers of different Gaudiya Acaryas. Please join us in these efforts to give an example of your Guru’s glory and vision. The court case against the Bhagavad Gita in Russia was defended by ISKCON lawyers, but WVA - VVRS and Chaitanya Mission offered similar financial help to uphold the glory of the Holy Scriptures.
Let us all be ready for any future problems. Let us be stronger, happier and more united in the diversity of our causes.

If sectarian people can go as far as to try to ban the Bhagavad Gita, can you imagine how difficult it may become when vaishnava preachers are in the minority and start having some impact on the local society? We have the strength of our peaceful and loving tradition. A religion which never threatened anyone in the world to become a hindu or vaishnava. We have the Bhagavad Gita and Lord Gauranga’s order to preach everywhere. This is historic and the world needs this gift Mahaprabhu brought.

This year Mayapur World Vaishnava Association - Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha’s meeting will be another effort to form active committees for a variety of projects.

A Road Map to the future

To all interested devotee's,

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and all the devotee's of Lord Chaitanya

Recently on Sampradaya Sun there has been a wonderful dialog concerning all the issues that devotees' have suffered from and many concepts on the process of change and healing. Guru Kripa Prabhu along with Bhakta Dasa have only tried to give us a picture that, of course we all share and are well a where of. But I find it necesary to bring these points out to the open, least we forget and find that where no better off then we where years ago. Hamsavatar Prabhu has done the same.

He writes in response to many devotee concern and I find him to be thoughtful and on point on issues that are way out of control due to a lack of devotee unity. We have lost our strength when we comply with people that lead us astray. That has been the history in the world. People cheat and steal there way to the top and who suffers, the common man or women. Many devotee's have written articles concerning this in the last few weeks. But I find that no real solutions are being made as to how to get to that place where we see a new door that leads us forward to purify the mission of Srila Prabhupada. That takes more than sitting down and writing a nice article, although reading them gives us a since release. We say " yes those devotee's that did this and that are cheaters and thief's, they should be booted out etc, etc, etc"

It is very true as we all know to well that we have been victims of deception at the highest level and yet through all these years nothing changes. It is clearly not enough to scribe on the internet. We must to much more to heal the wounds of the past. It takes hard work, unity, love, purity in purpose, forgiveness, and a more powerful way to look forward instead of always looking backwards. I personally have great hope for the future. However I along with must of my devotee sanga don't need the support of ISKCON and it's leaders. We have moved though the tunnel of reliance and came out on the other side to find that preaching is opened to all and it's vast. We must be creative in our attempts and not hold others accountable for our own shortcomings. It is true what Hamsavatar says we are suffering from our karma!!!

Let us all move forward to a new direction and purpose so that in time we can really say we are doing the needful to preach the message of Lord Chaitanya.

Now I ask all the devotee's to read below my thoughts on change and a road map unity. Read it through, reflect on what we can do not others to mend the heart.

Now I ask you a simple question:
Do you want vaishnava relations to improove?

Here is how.
You may like one or more of the following suggestions and you are free to apply them to your missionary work.

Points collected in the spirit of the Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha started by Srila Jiva Goswami.
1. Teach the members of your mission to feel joy about the preaching success of their brothers and sisters within their own vaishnava mission and about those of other vaishnava missions.
2. Give up the idea that only your mission distributes the grace of Mahaprabhu or better then other missions.
3. Invite representatives of other vaishnava missions to your main functions to offer them the facility to honor your Acaryas appearance day.
4. Join our adresses in a gaudiya directory (under construction).
5. You can exhibit a welcome sign to your temple with the logo of the WVA on it. You can also print that logo with the remark "Member of the WVA" in your publications, on your websites or in your events.
6. You can teach that many Spiritual Masters are requirred for teaching the world about Mahaprabhu and that such Spiritual Master can show their capacity as they expand new temples and new features of the vaishnava families. This generous approach would follow the order of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to increase the distribution of the fruits of love.
7. You can teach that all spiritual masters are representatives of their Guru varga and that their own success depends entirerly on them considering themselves students and humbly respecting the efforts other do for Their Guru varga.
8. You could help by creating a special spirit of forgiveness for any mistake done in the past by any of the people you had frictions with or felt offended and missunderstood by them.
9. Even though you maintain your own bhajan standarts in the service of your Guru varga you could teach and apply friendly apreciation and cooperation for common goals with other vaisnava groups whose bhajan style, dresses, language etc may defer from yours.
10. You appoint or become a secretary for your mission to be represented in the forums and joint projects proposed by the common need and interest of all practising or preaching Vaisnavas as proposed in the procedures of the WVA world Vaisnava association.
11. You please teach and consider that no single mission or Guru can alone fullfill the needs of this world.

There is also no way any centralized control can exist what different preachers do in their mission. All good spiritual teachers and missions are nessesary. Only Krishna is in final control.

India's glory was protected from foreighn invaders due to the decentralized Guru-Sisya system for transmitting Vedic teachings.
Conclusion: be ready to help when important concerns for all cannot be adressed or solved by a single unit of the vaishnava tradition.
Examples:
A. Defending the principles of dharma for the welfare of society in general such as cow protection, abortion issues and enviromental proteccions through vedic principles.
B. Preserving and making available sacret litherature of the respective traditions.
C. Greening and Cleaning of the holy places.
D. Joining together when sagret values are under attack such as the braking of the hills in Braj Mandal.

13. Let new Gurus be recognized amongst us as they start new Vaisnava missions. Those vaishnavas who for some good reason are not alighned with any established mission are also part of the larger vaishnava family and may soon even outdo previous contributions. Let there be incuragement for them and their afiliation with WVA give them some backing for starting their new efforts to serve Mahaprabhu.
14. Education is a topic which needs much development to offer respectable schooling and scholarly defense of vaishnava traditions.
Joint efforts would be real helpful.
15. Vaishnava healthcare help could easily be organised with joined efforts mainly for the monastic section.
16. Secretaries concerned with the welfare of vaisnavism beyond their own mission would help so much to keep positive comunication alive at any time needed.
17. The internet offers new ways to share important vaisnava information and files. You could inform other vaisnavas what material you have free of charge or where they can get those materials.
18. The WVA's vaishnava communittee requierrers sometimes guidelines from the senior acaryas on some issues. If your acarya has a secretary who can comunicate between him and the others who want some shastric clarification it would be very helpful to protect the clear line of vaishnava Unity in Diversity.
19. Even though the WVA would not want to meddle with any missions inside problems it would spell out a clear message if apreciation for individuals and their indevours to create new missions is appreciated.To free vaisnavism from the spell of being seen as sectarian, fanatic and otherwise distorted it would help if people can practise their Vaisnava faith without submitting themselves to someone they do not consider genuine.
Then the true merit of the Vaisnava World religion without institutional limitation could be appreciated.
We all subscribe to the same scriptures, mantras, parampara, Dhamas, worship the same Deities and have similiar concerns and lifestiles. How strange then if we have little or no appreciation and or communication amongst our missions.
20. In essence we are on the same path even with Yogis, Brahmavadis, Karmakandis, etc. But no doubt we have to perfect our present concerns to move on to increase our awareness with the help of others.
It is natural for students to consider what they presently study to be the most important. Vaikuntha bhakti or madhuria bhakti awakening. All these will reveal in time. But our concern for the general upliftment of humanity creating in them appreciation for the vedic messages will be enhanced if we have common efforts for such important issues like the welfare of our planet and it's man and animals.
Apreciation of the service other vaishnavas have done, can be shown by not speaking ill of them, not disturbing their preaching efforts or even by joining forces with them on common interests.

A GANDHIAN NON-VIOLENT MOVEMENT FOR A NON-VIOLENT CULTURE OF DEVELOPMENT

Save Ganga & Save Himalayas Meeting- cum- Panel Discussion

We would like to organize, like on 12th March in the previous years, the above mentioned function, as a part of our Save Ganga Movement, to pay tribute to our beloved Bapuji on the occasion of the 82nd Anniversary of his Dandi Yatra. It is intended to have a free frank critical discussion firstly over the issue of the progress of the save- Ganga -activities of NGRBA and secondly over the issue of what short-term and long-term time-bound course of actions we must take to save the Ganga symbolizing all rivers and water bodies and the Giriraj Himalaya, symbolizing all mountains forests and wildlife. (For a discussion on this issue, please see the note entitled “What We Must Do to Save the Ganga: Some Reflections” attached/ enclosed herewith). The function will commence at 10.00 a.m. We would like various interested eminent persons from different streams of life, scientists, environmentalists, spiritual teachers, Gandhians, politicians, industrialists , etc. and social activists, bureaucrats and government officials involved in the Ganga-conservation / pollution-prevention works to deliberate through critical dialogue on this issue of great national and global importance.

We are sorry to inform you that although more than two and half years is over since the formation of our National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) to make our National River and its tributaries free from pollution and stop their degradation, our progress towards the objective is highly insignificant. It is deeply painful and highly deplorable that even though more than 3000 crores of rupees have been spent to clean the Ganga and the Yamuna, the rivers are grasping for breath under unbearable pollution, even though we know the Ganga to be the lifeline of crores of our people and crores of our people consider her to be their divine mother. It is important to note that according to the report of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) published on 20th March 2007, apart from the Ganga, the Indus, Nile, and Yangtze are among the 10 most endangered rivers of the world. Surely saving our national river Ganga, which constitute the lifeline of nearly 40 % of our country’s population, would be major step in the direction to save all our other great rivers which are also in the process of slow death. It would not be possible for us to clean the Ganga and its tributaries unless we change our attitude and manner of working from that which was responsible for the failure of our National Ganga Action Plan (GAP). The management of affairs related to the Ganga continue to be handled by the central and state governmental bureaucracies in the same manner as before in the case of GAP. We must not allow NGRBA to fail like our GAP. NGRBA must have transparency and accountability in every sphere of its activities, which at present it does not have.

Posterity will condemn and curse us if we do not take the necessary time-bound steps to save our invaluable national river Ganga, the cradle of the only living great ancient civilization and the lifeline of crores of our people.

Historic effort to bring Yamuna ji back to Keshi Ghat

Almost one month ago an incredible work started in the banks of Yamunaji in Vrindavan, in the area between Keshi Ghat and Madan Mohan Ghat.

The flyover which was being built two years ago, would have resulted in the diversion of the Yamuna water away from Vrindavan entirely. This is the only place where Yamuna Devi still makes contact with the town and ghats. As it is, the pillars that remain are still resting on raised ground and blocking the flow of the water towards Keshi Ghat. This situation is untenable for the future of Vrindavan.

K.P.S. Gill, resident of Keshi Ghat, sent three petitions signed by over a hundred people each to the District Magistrate asking him to do something about the sewage in front of Keshi Ghat. He said: "Because the administration does not seem interested in doing anything, we took matters into our own hands and decided to do our own work to bring the Yamunaji back to the ghats".

In the begining the work started with two groups of over thirty men each have been busily digging. One of the groups worked in the vicinity of Madan Mohan where the nali from Koshi comes, and the second group in front of Cheer Ghat.

Different organizations, groups, ashrams and individuals have been support this effort. Even Gaudiya Math's leaders like Pujyapad Sadhu Maharaj, acharya of the Imlitala Gaudiya Math, who came to show their support.

Nowadays, the first goal is reached, both canals, the one who brings waters from the nali of Koshi and the canal with Yamuna water has a strong flowing and both joined in front of Jay Singhera area.

More than 500 people still working in this historic effort to bring Yamuna ji back to the original Ghats of Vrindavan. Two JCB “mahabali” back hoe machine are also on the job moving sand to allow Yamuna ji flow back. The goal is that the greater part of the river’s flow will be diverted to Keshi Ghat.

This is to inform you that Srila Bhakti Kumud Santa Maharaja, one of the last living disciples of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupada has departed for Goloka Vrindavan.

Srila Santa Maharaja was an outsanding preacher through his life. He was very dear to his godbrothers and to his Spiritual Master. Srila Santa Maharaja left the world in Calculta where he had spending the last years in his bed, deeply absorbed in the welfare of all living entities. Despite of his state of being abscend minded from the mundane fares, he still received thousands of visitors and even initiated many new sannyasis into the preaching invitation his gurudeva made to the whole world.

Strict sannyas general, he capted eiaght eract in giving amazing example. It was also fantastic to see that His disciple, Bhakti Vichar Bharati Maharaja in Mayapur, was able to open Srila Bhakti Kumud Santa Maharaja's glorious Mandir on the Bhaktisddhanta road, just a few months before the final samadhi of Srila Santa Maharaja.

Srila Bhakti Kumud Santa Maharaja has established many beautiful mandirs in India and also traveled around the world preaching the glories of Lord Caitanya in England, Germany and USA. I personally met him many times, because he used to always come to visit Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhara Maharaja and to
Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Maharaja's functions; always describing himself as his juniors. He joined Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupada's Mission when he was still a young boy and, as he told me personally, Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Maharaja had been a tutor for him in his early stages of math's life.

Srila Santa Maharaj was an enthusiastic and fired preacher, who spare no effort to defend the Bhakti - Siddhanta. Anyhow, but on the very personal level he was extremely kind and affectionate and always able in many occasions to rejoice and witness his caring nature. He and His disciples were also caring members of the World Vaishnava Association, even for some many years they were intensely preocupied with his state of health.

Santa Maharaja's glories will be heard all over. Recently I visited Surya Kund in Braj, where one of his sannyas disciple called Madhusudhan Maharaj is taking care of the restored Surya Narayan Mandir, and I saw a big and beautifull picture of Him being worshiped there, that was my greatest joy.

His sannyasis and disciples will continue His legacy which increase power and love getting his backing now directly from the Spiritual World. Even though it is sad that we miss His physicall association now, it is also glorious and ecstatic how this last great acarya of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, held up the banner of preaching even while lying in the bed.

I want to share with all of you a special thing what happened:
Another sannyasi, also called Santa Maharaja, left the world on the same day in Lima - Peru; he had received his sannyas name Bhakti Vedanta Santo Maharaja in respected memory of Srila Bhakti Kumud Santa Maharaja for being excelent preacher for more than 20 years.

By mystical arrangement of Srimati Radharani, this two Santa Maharaja left this world practically at the same hour.

Most Revered Siksha Guru Sri Srimad Bhakti Kumud Sant Goswami Maharaj leaves His dear disciples, associates and followers in separation grief today. This is a great loss not only to the Gaudiya Vaishnavas but to the entire world. One of the brightest stars in the Gaudiya sky, Srila Bhakti Kumud Sant Goswami Maharaj took His last breath at 1.05 AM IST today in a private nursing home.

Earlier Srila Maharaj was admitted to the hospital as He had problem in respiration due to severe cold few days ago. Doctors also diagnosed that He had fever, sugar and lever problem. These external things just became apparent cause but ultimately it was His desire to be part of the mid-night eternal pastimes of the Lord. He is the last disciple of Nitya-lila Pravista Om Vishnupad 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur Prabhupad, the Founder of world-wide Sri Chaitanya Math, Sri Gaudiya Math and Sri Gaudiya Missions to leave this planet.

At 9.45 AM IST Srila Maharaj's transcendental body was brought to the Math in Behala, Kolkata and was placed in front of the Deities. He was performed Arati, Pushpanjali. Countless devotees of various organizations visited the math and offered flowers to His body. Later He was shifted to the bhajan kutir in the 2nd floor where devotees stood in queue to get their turn to have darsan of His transcendental body. The grief of the devotees cannot be phrased and expressed in any language of the world.

From our Math Srila Bhakti Saurabh Acharya Maharaj, Srila Bhakti Pangat Sannyasi Maharaj and few other Brahmacharis along with two personal sevaks of Srila Gurudev went to Behala Math to offer flowers and homage to Srila Maharaj. Srila Gurudev sent a flower garland to Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj that was offered to the later by Srila Acharya Maharaj. Srila Gurudev accepted the Prasad garland of Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj with great reverence. Srila Maharaj's transcendetal body will be taken to Narma near Medinipur where Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj appeared. There is a 400 year old Sri Radha Kishore Jiu temple at that place where Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj used to visit in His childhood. From there He would be taken to Sri Chaitanya Ashram in Kharagpur. Later He would be taken to Keshiari where He established Sri Gauranga Math and the final samadhi will take place there.

When informed, Most Revered Srila Gurudev took the message in shock. He remembered Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj's affection to Him in the past and also His recent visit to the Behala Math (http://www.sreecgmath.org/scgmhome/node/46). Srila Guru Maharaj mentioned, "He used to give me Prasad whenever I went there. He used to show lot of affection. This time also when I went I held His hand and spoke but He did not speak anything. He was the only one left among the disciples of Srila Prabhupad but now He also left. Anything may happen anyime." He paused for a while and said again, "Even Sriman Mahaprabhu exhibited the pastimes only for 48 years", probably indicating that it is the desire of the Lord and His devotees to perfrom more pastimes on earth or go back to their original place.

Srila Bhakti Vigyan Bharati Maharaj said, "Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj was very powerful in his speech and very bold too. One time in a Harikatha assembly the guest speaker said that all jivas are non-different from brahman quoting the vedas - jiva brahmaiva na param (living entities are none other than brahman). Immediately Sant Goswami Maharaj stood up and rushed towards the speaker to beat him. He reacted and went aback. Srila Sant Maharaj proceeded towards Him and again showed him the fist as if to beat him. He again tried to save himself. Like this Srila Sant Maharaj feared the speaker 3-4 times and the guest everytime tried to protect himself from the attack. Later Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj said, 'Brahman is nirvikar (unperturbed). If you are brahman why are you getting vikar (perturbed)?' All the devotees and other members laughed and the speaker became silent and ashamed."

Srila Bhakti Saurabh Acharya Maharaj broke into tears while He was giving Jaya-dhvani of Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj after Mangala-arati today. While on the way to Behala Math today he recollected, "Srila Sant Goswami Maharaj had lot of respect and regard to our Gurudev. After Srila Prabhupad's disappearance Srila Sant Maharaj (he was Sri Radharaman brahmachari that time) left the Math and desired to enter household life. He went to a place near Medinipur for marriage. Knowing this our Gurudev walked to that place from Medinipur on an Ekadasi day. Our Gurudev used to observe Nirjala (fast even from water) on all ekadasis. So though He was fasting and tired of programs He walked to the place of Sri Radharaman Das's parents and convinced them. After they were convinced He went to Sri Radharaman Das. As soon as he saw our Gurudev, he stood up in reveration and payed obeissances. Srila Gurudev spoke with him for a while explaining why he should remain celebate for his entire life and propagate the message of Sriman Mahaprabhu. Srila Sant Maharaj felt as if Srila Prabhupad had come in the form of our Gurudev to show him the right path. Later he gave up his family and joined the institute of Srila Prabhupad taking a vow that he will never ever enter household life."

This beautiful poster we have created here comprises a photographic collection of some of the most prominent disciples of Srila Prabhupada Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur and his two spiritual masters. It serves as visual evidence of how so many of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta’s disciples became Sannyasis and Acaryas, dedicating their lives to please their Guru and expand the teachings of Lord Caitanya. With an open heart, we can appreciate the uniqueness and greatness in each and every one of them and need not think of any of them as the “greatest” disciple of all.

When Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Maharaj was asked why the six Goswamis performed different services, he said, “Do not think that any of the Goswamis could not have done what the others did. It was by Divine Will that each one performed his unique duties.” To glorify our own Guru is natural, yet if we do this while at the same time we envy, ignore or minimize other Gurus or other disciples of His Divine Grace, then we are not performing true Guruseva.

It is our humble suggestion that we all create more love and appreciation for the great variety of Vaishnavas on this Earth. They are all part of our family – our god parents, our god uncles, our great god uncles and so on. When we see the genealogical tree, we understand how many great vaishnavas are a part of our family. If we are not aware of this, or if we lose touch with this, than we fall into sectarianism and do not respect even those who chant the same guru-mantras and meditation-mantras as we do. Remember, Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur said: "Sectarianism is the greatest enemy of Truth" and "A sectarian missionary preaching about Divine Love is the greatest contradiction.”

Thus, again, this poster reminds us of the diversity of the these beautiful vaishnava acaryas and how each has blessed this world by their presence. The disciples of any of these acharyas surely feel what we each feel for our own Guru. This is Krishna Consciousness: unity in diversity – inspired by none other than Sri Krishna Himself.

Gita's dignity saved in Russia

Devotees are demonstrating before the court case in Berlin, Germany testifying their gratefulness to the Bhagavad Gita As It Is.
As the court case was approaching the situation was tense. Even in the Indian parliament protest was demanded.

In front of the Russian embassy of Berlin a demonstration was held by western and eastern devotees of Krishna. The police stopped the protest and the written document was handed over to the embassy secretary stating the commentaries of dignitaries worldwide in support of the Bhagavad Gita.

Such are the cases where the World Vaishnava Association (WVA) must make a use of their potency created through unity in diversity. To defend the dignity of our preceptorial line and also show how much is done by Vedic culture for the welfare of the world.
In an age of increased degradation we will depend on the spreading of the holy name to reach a basic level of purification and to shed light on the sectarian and materialistic way the world is overburdened by.

New Year Message from Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaja

A visitor to the Math happened to have darsan of Srila Gurudev when He came out for Tulsi Parikrama today afternoon. After His Divine Grace's watering, circumambulation and offering obeissances to Sri Tulsi, the visitor wished happy new year to Srila Gurudev.

Srila Gurudev smiled and said, "This human birth is very rare. There are many other species but human beings are few in number." Thereafter He quoted the verse jalaja nava-lakshani .... from Vishnu Purana emphasizing the rarity of human birth. Srila Gurudev added, "We are seeing so many things in front of us. If our eyes are lost can we see anything. It is not wise to waste this human birth getting attracted by things around us and fighting for those temperory material things. This birth is meant only for worshipping Supreme Lord. Animals cannot perform bhajan. But if humans also do not perform bhajan, they are wasting this precious birth." He paused for a while and continued, "Always remember the life of Dhruva. Never have hostile mentality to anyone. If you have anything against anyone in this world, everything will be lost."

Later He inquired if the devotees' had taken Prasadam and entered His room. Other devotees present felt extremely blessed by listening to those instructions.

Let us pray to Srila Gurudev that may He give us strength to follow His instructions and perform all deeds for His satisfaction only.

Fight for the Yamuna River Reaches Indian Parliament

Delhi, 2012.01.01 (ISKCON News, Madhava Smullen): After a whole year of active protesting and lobbying by sadhus, devotees, and environmentalists, it looks like the fight for the Yamuna River is finally reaching its peak, with the issue snowballing its way into Indian Parliament on December 18th.

Major TV stations in India broadcast a heated three-hour debate in which fifteen to twenty members of Parliament challenged the government as to what it was going to do about the sacred river, declared ‘dead’ by the Ecological Department of India. The outraged politicians included former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

There’s been widespread public anger for the past year due to the fact that while the Yamuna emerges clean from Yamunotri, its source in the Himalayas, there is barely a drop of the original sacred river left by the time it reaches Braj, Lord Krishna’s birthplace. That’s because eighty-five per cent of it is held back by an irrigation dam in the state of Haryana, while 3.6 billion liters of Delhi City sewage and industrial waste is emptied into it every day.

Back on April 15th this year, one thousand protestors finished a month-and-a-half long march at the common protest ground of Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where they were joined by another 19,000, some of whom went on a six-day hunger strike to get the government’s attention.

The protest was led by sadhu and environmentalist Ramesh Babaji and members of his Maan Mandir organization; Bhanu Pratap Singh, head of the 100,000 strong Bhartiya Kisan Farmer’s Union; and ISKCON devotee and businessman Radha Jivan Dasa.

Now, with Parliament finally taking notice of the issue, worshippers of Yamuna Maharani are seizing the opportunity with both hands.

“Maan Mandir devotees, who have been at the forefront of taking care of the environment in the sacred land of Braj for many years, are approaching the politicians who made the most noise in Parliament to inform them more and encourage them to speak for the Yamuna’s cause,” says Radha Jivan Dasa.

As the issue heats up, Maan Mandir is also organizing its biggest protest yet. Starting from February 1st, it will run a 24-hour “Dharana” or “sit-in” at Keshi Ghat on the banks of the Yamuna in Vrindavana, for an entire year.

“Right now, a team of devotees headed by Maan Mandir’s Jaya Sri Krishna Dasa is going around requesting each of Braj’s villages to come and participate in the sit-in and chant Harinama for a 24-hour shift,” Radha Jivan says. “Since there are 1,000 villages, we’ll have no problem filling in the 365 days required. Many of the poor villagers have already enthusiastically committed, and even refused to let us pay for their transport to the site, saying it will be their service to Yamuna Maharani.”

Radha Jivan expects at least 1,000 people, with banners, loudspeakers, speeches, and prasadam provided by Maan Mandir, to be present at Keshi Ghat at all times throughout the year 2012. Politicians will speak at the protest, which will be covered by all major newspapers and television stations.

The protestors have a clear demand: Let a clean Yamuna flow into Braj. They are asking for some of the Yamuna water held in Haryana to be released, and requesting Delhi to build a 22 kilometer canal for its waste, which can then be cleaned for irrigation, rather than using the Yamuna.

The Yamuna river is expected to be a key issue in the Uttar Pradesh general elections, starting on February 28th next year, with Brijbasis and members of the 100,000-strong Kisan Farmers Union stating that they will vote only for the candidates that promise them clean Yamuna water.

As the year-long “Dharana” begins, two members of Maan Mandir and two devotees from ISKCON Germany plan to fly to Mayapur, West Bengal to make a presentation on the Yamuna effort to the Governing Body Commission, ISKCON’s highest management authority.

“The Maan Mandir devotees are Brajaraj Sharan, who has campaigned for the Yamuna around the world, and Ravi Monga, a legal liason for the campaign,” says Radha Jivan. “The ISKCON devotees are both disciples of Radhanath Swami, who is a big supporter. They all feel that with GBC support, ISKCON as a worldwide Vaishnava organization can truly get behind the fight for Yamuna Maharani, campaigning internationally and putting pressure on the government.”

It still remains to be seen if worshippers of the sacred Yamuna will get their wish, and be able to save Lord Krisna’s beloved river. But with protests and political interest reaching an all-time peak and entering Parliament, it looks like the dam is about to break.

Russian court refuses to ban Bhagvad Gita, followers cheer across the world

MOSCOW: A Russian court today rejected a petition, described by India as "patently absurd", which had sought a ban on a translated version of Bhagvad Gita, bringing cheers to followers here as well as those across the world.

"We have won the case. The judge has rejected the petition," Sadhu Priya Das of ISKCON, Moscow, who is also Chairman of newly formed Hindu Council of Russia, told PTI.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna welcomed the judgement and thanked the Russian government for its support.

Prosecutors in the Siberian city of Tomsk had argued that the Russian translation of "Bhagavad Gita As It Is" promotes "social discord" and hatred towards non-believers.

The text is a combination of the Bhagvad Gita, one of Hinduism's holiest scriptures, and commentary by A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, that is commonly known as the Hare Krishna movement, ISKCON.

The prosecutors had asked the court to include the book on the Russian Federal List of Extremist Materials, which bans more than 1,000 texts including Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf" and books distributed by the Jehovah's Witness and Scientology movements.

Reacting to the judgement that came at about 4:30 pm IST, ISKCON spokesman Brajendra Nandan Das told PTI in New Delhi that, "We are very happy".

ISKCON members have alleged that the Russian Orthodox Church was behind the court case as it wanted to limit their activities.

The case had created a storm back in India and even the Parliamentary proceedings had been affected by it.

Speaking in Parliament, Krishna had said the lawsuit was the work of "ignorant and misdirected or motivated individuals."

He also called the complaint "patently absurd".

Krishna had summoned the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi, Alexander Kadakin, yesterday and told him that Moscow should provide all possible help to resolve the issue that has been in the court for the last six months.

He had also conveyed to the top Russian diplomat the sensitivities involved with the issue.

Kadakin had assured Krishna that the Russian Government will do all it can within its power.

The trial began in June and was scheduled to conclude on December 19, just after Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's two-day visit to Russia.

However, officials in Tomsk agreed to hear further testimony from experts and the Russian ombudsman for human rights and postponed the court decision till today.

Russian lawyers Mikahil Fralov and Alexander Sakhav argued strongly against the petition.

The judge, after reviewing the petition from the state prosecutors and the responses against it, dismissed the plea.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had last week insisted that the Tomsk court is not taking issue with core Hindu scripture itself, but rather with the author's commentary and poor translation in "Bhagavad Gita As It Is."

Darul Uloom Deoband urges Hindus, Muslims to unite on Gita

LUCKNOW: Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband issued a statement on Wednesday defending the Hindu religious text Bhagwad Gita. Deoband vice-chancellor Maulana Abul Qasim Nomani condemned the "Russian diktat against the Hindu holy scripture" and urged Hindus and Muslims to unite to drive home the point. Nomani also pitched for a joint approach against anti-Islamic bans Muslims face in the West.

But, many in the Deoband campus were surprised by his statement. They viewed it as a tactical move by the V-C to shed his ultraconservative image for wider acceptability. The appeal to Hindu religious heads to extend similar support to Muslims pointed to his cautious approach lest he was misunderstood and misinterpreted, sources said.

"Allegation portraying Gita as extreme literature are totally baseless and highly objectionable," Nomani told TOI. No religion in the world promotes violence and terrorism.

"This ban amounts to violation of the freedom to practise religion of choice enshrined in the Indian Constitution. The Russian highhandedness deserves to be staunchly countered," he said.

The Maulana in turn expected a similar support for Muslims from Hindu gurus on ban on hijab in several nations. " Affront to religion from foreign shores needs to be opposed by both communities together for maximum impact," he said.

Maulana Khalid Rashid, head of Lucknow's Firangimahal, also denounced "Russian arrogance" and said Muslims must offer their unflinching support to Hindus in what he called a direct attack on their private space. "We appeal to the government to take a firm stance so that such blasphemous interference is not attempted in future," he said.

Russians kick up an unholy row over holy book - Bhagavd Gita case in Russia

The Bhagwad Gita's first Russian translation came out in 1788. Soon, another important Indian work, Kalidasa's Shakuntala, was translated to Russian in 1792. Indian literature, thereafter, became popular, especially among writers and intellectuals. The Russian poet, A S Pushkin, was drawn to the Ramayana and the Gita was a favourite with Leo Tolstoy.

Against this backdrop, the attempt in the Siberian city of Tomsk to get the Gita banned is baffling. First, it doesn't seem a trans-Russia sentiment at all. Second, the court case is probably an outcome of the uneasy relations between ISKCON and the local Russian Orthodox establishment. In this case, a property dispute appears to have been the complicating factor.

Reports indicate that Victor Fyodotov, the public prosecutor of Tomsk, on the instigation of local church figures, filed a case in a local court to get the book "Bhagwad-Gita, As It Is", with commentaries by Swami Prabhupada, banned. (So, the plea is not to ban Bhagwat Gita per se, but the one authored by Swami Prabhupada published by "Bhaktivedanta Book Trust" some 20 years ago. However, this version, too, contains the full Gita text.)

The prosecutor, it would appear, is a local anti-ISKCON activist, who has resorted to a number of lies. First, he claimed his plea was based on the authorized "expert opinion" of Tomsk State University.

In the first, second and third court hearings on 12, 18 and 29-30 August 2011, the so-called experts, Sergei Avanesov, Valery Svistunov and Valery Naumov of Tomsk University, said their opinion was not official but given in their personal capacity.

Secondly, contrary to their opinion earlier given in writing, they didn't support the plea in the court that the book contained any subversive or extremist content. The two advisers invited by the court, N V Serebrennikov and N N Kapritsky, also rejected the written "expert opinion".

However, these two advisers said some abusive words are used for non-Krishanites in Swami Prabhupada's commentary, but added that the book does not attempt to create a racial or religious divide. This argument was countered by the judge herself who told that the Bible, too, used phrases like: "Don't throw pearls before a swine."

In the court proceedings it came through that while there was a tendency to claim exclusiveness on the part of Swami Prabhupada (a characteristic of most religious texts), there was no evidence to support the accusations made against the book.

The Russian society appears to have been embarrassed by the episode. The media, for instance, has condemned the ongoing trial. The newspaper Vechernyi Tomsk (Tomsk Eveninger) carried a report titled, "Trial of Indian book brings shame to Tomsk".

The newspaper Gazeta.ru carried a satirical piece on how a work that was created 5,000 years ago has suddenly become an extremist document. The intellectual community of Russia has been no less indignant.

There have been protest pickets, round-table meetings and discussions on the trial in the Tomsk court. Nelly Krechetova, human rights ombudsman of Tomsk region, has termed the trial "absurd". Speaking on Radio "Echo of Moscow" she said, "This book is considered sacred by more than a billion people the world over, and in Russia itself the book has been in circulation for 20 years."

She continued that there was no manifest incident of extremism caused by the dissemination of the book. A ban on the book, she said, would amount to "violation of constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of conscience and faith."

On November 28, a discussion was organized by the newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets, in which scientists and members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and several religious figures participated. It adopted a resolution saying "there is no basis for conducting such a trial and the very fact of initiating a trial by the public prosecutor is an insult to the religious feelings of followers of Vaishnavism in India and Russia and it will give a body blow to Indo-Russian relations."

The overall picture and the response in mainline Russia should help us in India and our parliamentarians get a perspective on what may be called an extreme step by a fringe group in Tomsk.

Channel digging at Keshi Ghat continues

A machine does the work of many men. It has easily doubled the width of the hand-dug trench.

Vrindavan, 2011.12.21 (VT): We have posted several albums of pictures this week showing the progress of the work on the channel digging bringing water to Keshi Ghat. You can see them on the Vrindavan Today Google profile.

The widened channel is now only 100 meters away from the pillars of the uncompleted bridge. The hope is that the greater part of the river's flow will be diverted to Keshi Ghat.

About 200 laborers are working every day, and a JCB "mahabali" back hoe machine is also on the job.

Srila Prabhupada’s departure as announced in Gaudiya magazine

Last Narayan 4, 450 of the Chaitanya era, at the end of the Thursday night, Paush 16, 1343 of the Bengali calendar, on Friday morning, January 1, 1937, the great acharya of the Gaudiya Vaishnava sampradaya and its only protector, the ninth in descent from Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the best of the followers of Svarupa Damodar and Sri Rupa Goswamis, Paramahamsa Parivrajakacarya Om Vishnupada Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada, joined the eternal activities of Radha Govinda in the first hour of their eternal twenty-four cycle of activities. This is the same hour that his own guru, Om Vishnupada Gaura Kisora Das Babaji entered into the nitya-lila.

The meaning of entering the lila at this hour is understood clearly by those who are intimate with him for it is directly experienced in their hearts, but a hint can be given here. At the end of the night, Radha and Krishna are locked in an unbreakable embrace, gadhaliigana-nirbhedam aptau. Jayadeva Goswami has indicated this situation with the word naktam in the first verse of Gita-govindam which begins meghair meduram ambaram. When Radha and Krishna are joined together like this, they take on their combined form of Gaurasundara. It is this auspicious moment that Varsabhanavi-dayita Das chose to make his entry into their pastimes.

Srila Prabhupada is like the sun of the Gaudiya sampradaya, as he is identical with its acharyas Rupa and Svarupa Damodar. But now that this sun of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s sampradaya has set, darkness has descended not only on the preachers of the Gaudiya Math, but on the entire world. It seems that the direct light of guileless devotion will once again be hidden from the view of the world’s people. Our only hope is that this luminary amongst spiritual teachers sufficiently inspired his followers with such a desire to serve the feet of the Lord, with such ever-fresh enthusiasm, and instilled in them such ideals of practice and preaching, that the stream which passed through Svarupa and Rupa and then through Bhaktivinoda Thakur will continue to gather force and flow into the world. In our hearts, we consider nothing else to be possible even in our worst imaginings. From the blessings that he gave just before passing on, we know that by adhering faithfully to his teachings and propagating them, we will be able to get his direct, personal association and will be able to find all the strength we need. Furthermore, by preaching fearlessly, with an independent spirit, and with the force of character that comes of sincere service and fidelity, we will be able to preach the gospel of Gaurasundara, our master’s master, throughout the world. By so doing, we are assured that his blessings will continue to rain down on us even more profusely. This faith is the sole lampost illuminating the path of pure devotion, which is strewn with countless obstacles.

We, the Gaudiya’s writers, are today without shelter, as we will no longer be able to show our articles to him who was the preserver of Rupa and Raghunath‘s tradition. Srila Prabhupada would eagerly read every article which was to be published in the Gaudiya. He would give us blessings and show the deepest satisfaction with our efforts. Now, even though he will no longer be able to do this directly, we will not be entirely devoid of his blessings nor of the spiritual strength arising from his mercy. We are not without succor, for he left us the gift of service to those who know the doctrines of pure devotion as taught by Bhaktivinoda Thakur, and through this service we shall gain the capacity to understand his most confidential desires and doctrines.

WVA committee meeting on 7th November, Sri Caitanya Gaudiya Math - Vrindavan

The continuation of the Mungeer Mandir meeting of World Vaishnava Association took place in the room of the secretary of Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaja .. where there was a meeting between Bhakti Vichar vishnu Maharaja, Bhakti Prasun Madhusudhan Maharaja, Pahlad Dasa, Bhakti Alok Paramadvaiti Maharaja and Praneshwara Dasa.

In that meeting it was confirm that volunteers who like to participate in the cleaning program of Govardhan will be welcome in the new project of Sri Caitanya Gaudiya Math which is just on the side of the Govardhan city direction to Radha Kunda on the return part of the parikrama.

This beautifull new building has many rooms with all facilities to those who wants to come to Govardhan and volunteer in the cleaning project.

Srila Gurudev, His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballab Tirtha Goswami Maharaj, have always told us about the transcendental very hard struggle our institution has made for getting back the birthplace of Srila Prabhupad at Puri. I wanted to share this struggle on the request of Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaj always wanted that the world must know the kind of struggle made by my Gurudev and his Gurudev for getting back the holy birthplace of Srila Prabhupad in Puri.

Most of the time we hear about this that most of the godbrothers of our Param Gurudeva Nitya Lila Pavitram Om Vishnupada Stotam Srimad Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaj they approached him in 1970 and requested him to do something for getting back the birthplace site at Puri of Srila Prabhupada, so that we can have a good birthplace temple over there. On the request of his godbrothers Srila Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaji first decided to approach the other gaudiya acaryas senior to him for same purpose but he got no response from them and finally he decided that now so many Vaisnava wanted it so he must do it.

Whenever our Param Gurudev decided to do anything it was like do or die situation for him. He would always finish what he started. When the struggle in Puri started very soon he downed that it is something impossible because the place where Thakur Bhaktivinod has stayed in Puri with his family was belonging to one math in Puri and after they left Puri that place was divided between 30,40 different tenants. He would stay there for years to get it.

In india is very difficult to take back your property from tenant but then something is to be done you have to do it. So my Guru Maharaj was then the secretary of Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya math and Param Gurudev instructed him to work for this purpose both of them have took it as their life objective. It was more spiritual task for them than anything else. So, they started working in Puri practically and on ground my Gurudev was working on field and the whole story is about the and honesty with which he worked for almost ten years to get back that particular holy place which is holiest of the holiest places for the Sarasvat Gaudiya Vaisnavas.

So I will try to translate from the biography written by my Guru Maharaj, biography of his Gurudev and the title is Pavan Jivan Caritra Sriman Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaj. So here there is a chapter of Sri Caitanya Gaudiya Math for Puri. Grand road Puri. My Gurudev writes here that the worldwide Sri Chaitanya Math and Sri Gaudiya Math found that Srila Prabhupada appeared on 6th feb 1874 Friday Magi Krishna Pancami Tithi at Purushottam month. The place is very close to Sri Jagannath temple. Its Narayan Chatta Math a joining place where Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur resided with his family. It is written at the Padma Purana the whole world will get Krishna Bhakti from Ut gath. So it is written that to prove this vedic saying Srila Prabhupada appeared in Puri at Purushottam dham. So that birthplace is very holy for all his disciples and disciples of disciples. So when they decided to get it back it was very tough job. They had to stay in Puri in Dudwala Dharamsala where the rooms were inundated with ants, mosquitos and all kind of insects but they had to stay at those rooms which were very close to the birthplace and they tolerated all the hardships. They, means my Gurudev and his Gurudev. So everyone was admonishing Param Gurudev that this is very difficult job so you must not do it, it is very very difficult to get back but he would never reply to them and he will always keep on trying trying and trying more and instruct his secretary to write letters to chief ministers – Sri Sadashiv and Sridev misra who were endowed commissioners and he would fix appointment and then he will meet personally and request. In all this effort one Udhana math Acarya Tridandi Swami Srimad Bhakti Sundar Sagar maharaj helped them very . He introduced them to one Sri Ranganath Misra who was advocate of Cuttack and finally became chief justice of supreme court of India and Ranghanath Misra became very much helpful in this holy endeavor. Actually that place belong to Sri Dakshin parshav math that was owned by this math the whole building and the land and the mahant of that math has leased that building for 99 years to Araya family. Bimal araya and gopinath araya and forefathers has got this lease from that math and they constructed a two big store house in that place and in the same place Srila Bhaktivinod thakur was staying when was administrator of Jagannath Mandir.

So, Bhaktivinod Thakur while staying in this house 1874 at that time Srila Jagat Guru Srila Prabhupada appeared. So after a very long time after lease dakshin parshav math write to the court to take back that property. And as in India the case went from judge court high court to supreme court and they got back the property from araya family. But when they got back the property it was already subdivided between 14, 15 families who were staying there for years. So it was heavy to get back that property for the math. So at that time even Iskcon was interested to get that place and they came and tried but finally they give up because of the complexity but then our Param Gurudev decided he was not taken aback by all complexities and problems he was only fixed on the objective that he has to take back the birthplace of his Gurudeva.

Even people from Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math advised Gurudeva not to go for this kind of complicated endeavor but he was indifferent to all these advisers. So Dakshin Parshav math were owner but unable to get the position of the property because there were so many tenants there so they have lost hope that they will ever get back the property. At the time on the advice of Sri Ranganath Misra advocate our Param Gurudev decided to buy that property and to buy that property they offered to Dakshin Parshav Math who was reluctant in the beginning but later they said if we do not get the possession of the property we better sell it off. So without having the possession the property was bought by Param Gurudev and in the moment they got the papers from the property he was so happy that he said this to many people. At that time there were so many obstacles from other maths who created problems by writing to different ministers and government that they are the real inheritors of this place but that became another bottle neck in getting back the property.

On the one hand there were tenants, on the other there were people of different Gaudiya maths who were not permitting our Param guudev to do what he wanted to do. So then during all this struggle many chief ministers and government commissioners were changed and many people came for help. And one of the very prominent persons who helped was Sri Ganga Dharmaha Patra of Puri. And he promised that he will do everything to get back that property for us. And just when they were going to get back from Parashav Math, they came to know that other Gaudiya Maths have approached for getting back in their name. When he heard this our Param Gurudev became very sad because from very beginning he asked these people to help but when they refused and took no interest only then he took initiative to take alone. But now when he was going to take it back they jumped into it. So he was very upset he cut short his north Indian tour and came back to Puri and stayed in this difficult situation and started working for getting the place. At that time our Param Guru Maharaj was absolutely dependent on the field work of his secretary of my Gurudev who was running from pillars to post to get the things done.

Gurudev used to stay on the bank of the Puri sea at Chaitanya ashram which is one of the branch of Param Pujyapad Tridandi Srimad Bhakti Kumud Santa Goswami Maharaj who gave accommodation for staying but the place was far away from the city and for all purposes for visiting courts and different offices Guru Maharaj was coming to Puri mostly on foot which was 3,4 km and in hard sun sometimes he will get a rikshaw but mostly he will be on foot. And every day there were court cases at different courts because there were different tenants and different court cases were going simultaneously. In the beginning the advocates in the court used to joke on one sanyasi coming to courts and they were not liking the idea that one holy man should be worried about visiting courts and having cases and all that but Guru Maharaj was unmindful of all this criticism and he went on with his job and one day he got an opportunity to address these lawyers of Puri court when they came to know about him they became very much impressed and from now onwards they used to wait for him and if some day he was not visiting the court they will inquire about him why he will not come. Because they were impressed that there can be someone so much obsessed with the objecting of getting back the birthplace of his Param Gurudev so they were helping later. Ultimately there were many obstacles, many problems and the kind of struggle which no one can make. Many godbrothers of Guru Maharaj who were told to help have left Puri telling this is not for what they have, they have renounced the world and they have come for doing harinam and bhajan and not for struggling in courts and running in offices. So many could not stand the hard work and the hard struggle. But there were so many ups and downs that ultimately sometimes it looked as impossible that we will get back the place.

Finally the case went to the governor of Puri and he was mister Bili Jatti at that time. So once Param Gurudev decided to meet him and went to Bhubaneswar and when Param Guruji was entering governor residence he saw the governor leaving the place with the whole entourage of security cars and his own car so Param guruji came out of the taxi and stood on the road and suddenly all those cars stopped and the governor came out of the car broke the security cordon and offered obeisances to Param Gurudev and Param Gurudev he told him I come to see you and he said please, come I will meet you. That was the personality of Param Gurudev and then when governor heard him he decided in his favor and finally we got back the whole papers from that original leaser.
What happened in December 1975 after getting the papers of the property, they find case against different tenants stay there because for one year Param Gurudev requested all the tenants this is a higher purpose for which we are trying for this land you should vacate this place and go for other place to rent there but no one was listening to him after one year these tenants also fight a case against our math. So when these tenants fight the case we have no option than to go for it the case of all those tenants in December 75 and our advocates Sritenddranath Mukhaupadyaya and Narayan Misra and Sri Narayan Singh.

So slowly slowly from divisional judicial magistrate the case came in our favor from the chief judicial magistrate and went to high court direct and their also the case was in our favor. And one local person Sri Bin Patra. He was having one room which was just next door to the birthplace of Srila Prabhupad. That place was given to our math and there my Gurudev and his godbothers started to stay and they were also going on with their struggle against the tenants. After sometime another person Srimvat Krishna panda also gave another room small room for us on getting this second room on 15 dec 1974 they celebrated the entrance festival in the Bhaktisidhanta Saraswati Thakur Avirbhav Sthali. And in that room our Param Gurudev offered his arati puja to a very big picture of Srila Prabhupada and very good sankirtan there and they put a very big sign board denoting that this is the birthplace of Srila Prabhupada that was 1974. After that the struggle to get the place vacated from tenant continued and it is very long story how slowly one by one all tenants left the place. During this struggle we hear so many incidents where those tenants fight and created so many problems for Guru Maharaj and the brahmacharis and they threat them and all sort of offences they do but the struggle continued. Ultimately one by one they started leaving the place. We got back the building by 1977. Between the time 1973-77 all the entourage of Parama Gurudev including my Guru Maharaj used to stay at Bhakti Kumud Santa Guru Maharaj place which was Sri Chaytani Ashram on Seashore. And many brahmacharis as Bhagavata das brahmachari, Govardhan das Sri Narayan das naren, Sridev Prasad brahmachari they were helping Gurudev but mostly Sri Gouranga Prasad brahmachari used to stay with Guru Maharaj and he used to accompany him to Bubhaneswar, Cuttack and other places. They used to stay at Duudvala dharamsala guesthouse at Bhubaneswar and Banka bazar santosh baba in Cuttack and sometimes in Satchidananda ashram in cuttack. So in this way it was a very long run very hard beyond imagination struggle. Guru Maharaj writes about Pisima one aunt who stayed in Chaytania ashram, she was very old disciple of Bhakti Kusum Santa Goswami Maharaj but she was very sincere in her service and she was very famous as Pisima of Sheldi amongst devotees. So then when they got two rooms adjoining to the birthplace they shifted from Chaitanya math to those rooms and there the stuggle went on. Ultimately is written that Guru, Vaisnav, Bhagavan they also test the sincerity of purpose of the devotee. And then one is very very sincere, they bless the person and impossible becomes possible with their blessing. Guru Maharaj gave example of Visvanat Cakravarti Thakur there was a small bird which is Rangatuni species of bird, very small you can hardly see this bird. And bird gave eggs at the shore of the sea at a tree. And then bird returns to the eggs and finds all are gone and came to know there was a high tide and all eggs have gone to the sea. Bird was very upset and started praying to sea, please, give back the eggs but there was no reply. After a long long time this Rangatuni bird became very upset and decided I will dry up the ocean. With this determination she started empting the sea with bringing one drop of water and putting on the sand. And other birds asked what are you doing and she said I will empty the sea because my eggs are there. They said please stop this it is something impossible but the bird did not stop so ultimately this story reached Devarsi Narada he asked what this bird is doing and talked to the bird but she said I am not going to stop. This impressed Narada so much that he went to Garuda. Garuda was told by Narada he should help that small bird. It belongs to you. Garuda went to see. And just slab the sea with his very big wig and the sea came running bringing these small eggs of the bird. So that story if we are sincere God will definitely help. That was the story of getting back the birthplace where Guru Maharaj has done, something which cannot be expressed with words properly but those who has witnessed this, this thing acknowledge his contribution. Wherever we go, our only duty is to serve Vishnu and Vaishnavas. We do not have any other duty. Our life is meant only for serving Vishnu and Vaishnavas. One should please the Supreme Lord by always hearing Hari-katha, performing kirtan, or engaging in any other service of Sri Sri Radha-Krishna.
There is actually much more service to do after becoming liberated. Those who are afraid of doing service cannot come to the line of Bhakti, especially the Bhakti lineage of Gaudiya Vaishnavas. The may contemplate "so´ham"-"so´ham" in a gyani lineage and merge into Brahman. But in our line of pure devotion, one has to serve the devotees and the Supreme Lord not only now, one gets the object of service as well as love for Supreme Lord. Sri Nanda Maharaj, Mother Yasoda, Radharani, and all other devotees are always engaged in the service of the Supreme Lord.

By the mercy of Srila Gurudeva, Srila Paramgurudeva and Sri Sri Radha-Damodar ji, large number of devotees gathered to participate in the circumambulation of Braj mandal. Programs are good. Srila Gurumaharaj blessed devotees at Sri Goverdhan, Sri Gokul Mahavan and Sri Vrindavan. What transcendental taste He is relishing, a conditioned soul like me cannot comprehend, but He is enjoying His stay.

The 107th transcendental divine appearance year festival of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj (Founder Acharya, Sree Chaitanya Gaudiya Math) is on 6th November, 2011.

I am detailing one of His transcendental pastimes as under:

SEEING THE PARAMATMA

My most revered Paramgurudeva, His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj 'Vishnupad' (Founder Acharya - Sree Chaitanya Gaudiya Math), once went to Hauli, Assam, where there was a huge gathering. Followers of all religions were welcome and so it was full of participants of various religions. As usual, Srila Paramguru Maharaj asked the audience to save their questions for the end. Right in the middle of the lecture, a priest stood up and interrupted to ask, ' Svami ji, have you seen atma and Paramatma, soul and Supersoul? Can anyone say he has seen them? I think no one has ever seen atma and Paramatma and that you are deceiving the world by speaking of them.'

Both the organizers of the meeting and the people in the audience were displeased with this challenger, but Paramguru Maharaj answered him respectfully. He said, 'You are obviously a learned person. May I ask you a question?' What is the name of the book you are holding?' The man stated the name of the book. Paramguru Maharaj replied, 'I cannot see it. I cannot see the name of the book. You are deceiving me.' Other came there and looked at the book's cover and confirmed that first man's statement. 'Svamiji, this man has told you the correct name of this book.'

Paramguru Maharaj replied, 'I have my eyes and my eyesight is good. Yet I do not see what you say you do. You are collectively deceiving me. To me, it looks as though a crow stepped in ink and then walked on paper to make all those marks. I see nothing but a crow's footprints.'

Hearing this, the priest was enraged, 'Svamiji, do you not know Urdu?'

'No, I do not.'

The priest replied, 'Then how can you expect to understand? You have to go through the process of learning the alphabet and then you will be able to read it and understand. You have to earn the ability!'

Then Paramguru Maharaj said, 'You have given the answer to your own question. Even if someone knows many languages, he will not be able to understand Urdu unless he has learned it. Even if one has good eye-sight, unless he knows Urdu, he will neither be able to recognize what sound its scripts represents, nor what the meaning of those sounds is. The same thing goes for understanding atma and Paramatma. Even if one has great learning and experience in this world, unless he has specifically earned the qualifications to experience the Lord, he will not be able to experience Him.

There are two kinds of vision, one based on knowledge (veda-drik), the other on simple sensual capabilities (mamsa-drik). The physical eye can only see physical objects and nothing else. Things that are beyond matter and the senses are self-revelatory and can only be seen with the Lord's blessings. Truth is revealed only in the heart of the surrendered soul.'

Govardhana-Dharan-Lila (The lifting of Govardhana) - Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaja

The Original Supreme Lord Sri Krishna Himself has revealed the ontological aspects and glories of Sri Govardhana. It has been especially narrated in the most ancient history and civilization of India mentioned in the Rig Veda that Indra, the presiding deity of the clouds, was worshipped on the Earth so that crops could be grown and reanimated by rainfall. We hear from the Srimad-Bhagavatam that according to human tradition and custom, annual worship of Indra was introduced in Vraja-dhama so that there could be cultivation of land and protection of the cows. That was the only means of livelihood for the residents of Vraja-dhama.

Sri Krishna saw that His father Nanda Maharaja and other milkmen had collected many articles for the Indrayag (oblation ceremony for the worship of Indra). Sri Krishna asked His father about the utility of performing such a function. Nanda Maharaja said that if Indra, the presiding deity of the clouds was propitiated, there would be rainfall at the appropriate time. Thereby, paddy crops and grasses would be grown and that would be helpful for their livelihood and for the sustenance of the cows. Nanda Maharaja again said, "If we neglect to perform our hereditary custom and duty, we will never get eternal welfare." After hearing this from His father and other milkmen, in order to infuriate Indra, Sri Krishna made the Vrajavasis (residents of Vraja) understand the futility of the worship of Indra and convinced them of the efficacy of worshipping Govardhana: "Indra is a demigod without any hold over the fruits of actions. He cannot award bad fruit for a good action and good fruit for a bad action. Birth and death, happiness and affliction are due to the actions of the individual souls. Even worldly actions are the cause of enmity, friendship and indifference. Indra cannot undo the fruits of actions. Although cultivation, trade, protection of cows and money-lending are the livelihood of the vaisyas (trader class of society), the Vrajavasis have only accepted protection of the cows as their principal means of livelihood. The residents of Vraja-dhama live in the forests and mountains; therefore, cities, crowded human habitation and houses are not good for them. Therefore, they should start an oblation function for the worship of the cows, brahmanas and mountains. Just as an unchaste lady who leaves her husband cannot get actual welfare by serving another person, similarly, the Vrajavasis cannot get actual welfare by serving others, leaving the service of Giriraja Govardhana Who is their actual shelter." Krishna advised the milkmen of Vraja-dhama to worship Giriraja Govardhana with all the articles collected for the Indrayag. He also advised them to bring milk, yoghurt and other milk products to cook different preparations of food, viz. Payasa (preparation of milk, rice and sugar), Mudgasupa (soup prepared from a kind of pigeon pea or pulse), Pishtaka and Saskuli (sweet preparations made of rice, coconut, sugar and milk). Krishna also directed them in the method of worship of Giriraja Govardhana: "It should be done by the ceremony of giving away cows and offering honorarium to the Vedic brahmanas who will perform the oblation. Brahmanas should be served with good preparations of food. After that, all others, including the Candalas (lowest caste), fallen persons and dogs should be served with appropriate offerings. Cows should be served with fresh grass. After Govardhana-puja, everyone should be adorned with ornaments, good dresses and anointments and should sit down to honour prasada. Lastly, everyone should circumambulate Govardhana mountain with the cows, brahmanas and the Fire-god." Being enchanted and subdued by his deep parental affection, Nanda Maharaja worshipped Giriraja Govardhana and all the brahmanas properly with all the articles collected for the Indrayag, as per the desire of his beloved son Sri Krishna. After that, while serving the cows with grass and straw, Nanda Maharaja performed parikrama of Govardhana with all the gopas and gopis, with the cows leading in front. All the gopas were adorned with beautiful ornaments and the gopis sitting on the bullock-carts performed Govardhana parikrama while constantly singing the glories of Krishna. To proclaim to the Vrajavasis that Giriraja Govardhana is non-different from Krishna , Sri Krishna repeatedly and loudly uttered the words, "I am the mountain Govardhana," and began to eat all the offerings given to Govardhana by extending thousand of hands. In another Form of Gopala, the son of Nanda Maharaja, Krishna made obeisances to His own manifested Form of Govardhana. Sri Krishna Himself introduced the practice of making prostrated obeisances to Govardhana as well as the circumambulation of Govardhana. Those who disregard Govardhana will be killed by Him in the form of serpents, etc.

Devaraja Indra, the emperor of the demigods, became furious at the Vrajavasis for stopping the Indrayag. Indra oppressed the Vrajavasis by incessant heavy rainfall and a strong hailstorm-like cataclysm. All the Vrajavasis were severely distressed and took shelter of Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna then protected them by lifting Govardhana with His left hand. Later on, Devaraja Indra could understand his mistake and came to Krishna with the Surabhi cow. He worshipped Krishna and prayed to Him to forgive his offence. Giriraja Govardhana is identical with Krishna and He is also the foremost servitor of Krishna.

Srila Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami prays to Giriraja Govardhana as follows:

giri-nripa! haridasa-sreni-varyeti-nama
mritam idam uditam sri-radhika-vaktra-candrat
vraja-nava-tilakatve klpta! vedaih sphutam me
nija-nikata-nivasam dehi govardhana tvam

(Sri Govardhana-vasa-prarthana-dasakam, verse 8)

"O Gririraja Govardhana, when your nectarean name was uttered from the lotus lips of Srimati Radhika in Srimad-Bhagavatam (10.21.18), 'Hantayam adrir abala hari-dasa-varyah,' i.e. 'O simple-hearted innocent gopis, this mountain is foremost amongst all the servitors of Sri Hari,' then you were consecrated by all the Vedas as the new beautiful tilaka (sandalpaste mark) of Vraja-dhama. I therefore pray to you to bestow me a dwelling place in your vicinity."

The Supreme Lord Sri Krishna stopped the worship of the demigods and introduced the worship of Govardhana, i.e. He introduced the service of Krishna and Krishna-bhaktas. One meaning of Govardhana is to enhance the sense-organs, so Govardhana-puja signifies the enhancement of the transcendental eternal spiritual sense-organs of Krishna and Krishna-bhaktas.

Since heaps of various items of cooked vegetable dishes were offered to Giriraja Govardhana in Govardhana-puja, this festival is also well-known as the Annakuta Festival. Sri Govardhana-dhari Gopala was originally installed by Vajra (the grandson of Krisha and son of Aniruddha). Due to Srila Madhavendra Puripada's extraordinary pure devotion, Govardhana-dhari Gopala reappeared in Govardhana near the bank of Govinda-kunda. Madhavendra Puripada performed the Annakuta Festival in Kali-yuga. This topic is narrated in detail in the Caitanya-Caritamrita (Madhya-lila, chap. 4).

Disappointments and Bhajan - Srila B.B. Tirtha Goswami Maharaj

We should not be disappointed by the happenings of the world and give up our Bhajana. This world is the place of turmoil and disturbances caused by the illusory energy of Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. Only a completely surrendered soul can surmount the ocean of births and deaths – threefold afflictions. We are to practice six-fold Saranagati which is the basis of devotional life. Without Saranagati, there cannot be Bhakti.

We should not be perturbed by mundane worldly loss and gain. We should be very careful about the eternal benefit of the eternal self which will go with us.

Whatever is done by the Will of Supreme Lord Sri Krishna Who is All-Good, is for the eternal benefit of all. Jivas reap the fruits of their own Karma. Nobody is to be blamed for this. We should not be perturbed under any circumstance and give up Bhajana in our short duration of stay in this transitory world. A completely surrendered soul is always protected and maintained by Sri Krishna. There is no cause of anxiety to him. He remains calm under all circumstances. We are controlled by Absolute-Will. We cannot do anything against His Will. Whether we shall lead an ascetic life or household life depends upon His Will. If He wishes anything, nobody can obstruct it.

We cannot see adjustment and cannot find solution by our own capacity. Total unconditional submission is the only way of solving problems. Jivas commit offence at the Lotus Feet of Sri Krishna, when they, being eternal servants of Sri Krishna, become averse to Sri Krishna. As long as Jivas will not remove this offence, there will be no practical solution. Maya will surely envelop them and there will be desire for enjoyment which will hurl them down to hell – intense suffering.

The root cause of the disease is to be eradicated, otherwise undesirable symptoms will crop up.
Hence, the root cause of all troubles, repugnance to Sri Krishna, is to be removed. We are averse to Sri Krishna from time immemorial. This averseness cannot be removed all of a sudden. It may require thousands of births or one birth. Even Ambarish Maharaja, the great devotee, could conquer all material desires gradually. Nothing can be achieved all of a sudden.
‘Sadhya’ – ultimate blissful spiritual existence – cannot be attained without ‘Sadhana’. Association of bona fide real Sadhus is essential for spiritual enhancement.

Inauguration of Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Maharaj's musseum

On the 13th of october, at Govardhan Temple of the Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math, was the inauguration of a wonderfull project, the Srila B.D. Madhav Gosvami Maharaj's Musseum, which presents many photographics registers of the history of His Divine Grace. The ceremony was leaded by Sri B.B. Tirtha Maharaj who enhanced the importance and contribution of Srimad Madhav Maharaj in the preaching of the glories of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhhu. Several acaryas and sannyasis from different missions were present and spoked in front of hundreds of people. In the ceremony it was also announced the opening of a new office of the World Vaisnava Association, which has into its targets lead the preaching about the importance of cleaning the Govardhana parikram area besides to inform about the different activities and projects of the WVA.

The glorification of a pure devotee is always a moment to rejoice, even more if we are talking about the 50th anniversary of the sannyas ceremony of Srila B.B. Tirtha Maharaj. On the 11th of october, at the Govardhan Temple of the Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math, we participated of the celebration of this great and beloved vaisnava, who is furthermore the president of the World Vaisnava Association. Hundreds of people came to offer their reverences and to honor him. The festival also was attended by several representatives, acharyas and sannyas, of different missions.

Srila B.B. Tirtha Maharaj gave darshan and beautiful hari-katha to all the presents, enhancing his Guru Srila B.D. Madhav Maharaj and the vaisnavas in general. The ceremony concluded with a delicious prasadam party.

WVA meeting: Looking for ways to glorify Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati

Vrindavan, 2011.10.16 (VT): At a meeting of the World Vaishnava Association at the Gopinath Gaudiya Math in Gopishwar Mahadeva, Om Prakash Brajvasi said that all the branches of the Gaudiya Math are the result of Prabhupada Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati's preaching, but that his contribution was yet to be fully recognized by the wider public.

Bhakti Aloka Paramadwaiti Maharaj said that there are more than 100 ashrams and maths in the Braj area that are connected to the Gaudiya Saraswata family. "We could be a powerful force and get a lot of things done if we were able to work together," he said. He listed a number of tasks related to the environment and the Yamuna River in which the World Vaishnava Association could play an important role. "But we are addicted to acting separately," he said.

He unveiled a website for the express glorification of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur and said, "The only way we can find unity is if we agree to work together to establish the heroic role that he played in Bengal."

Bhakti Swarup Sannyasi Maharaj of the Gaudiya Mission said that he wanted to build a "Prabhupada Museum" in Kolkata for precisely that purpose. It was noted that in Kolkata, the ghats on the Hooghly River near the Bagh Bazaar Math are named after people like Lokanath Brahmachari, who may or may not ever have come there, but that a saint with the international influence of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada remains unrecognized.

Mahavir Swami suggested why not a Chaitanya Museum here in Vrindavan, and he offered to give 400 square yards of land near Govinda Kund for that purpose.

It was also proposed that a fortnightly publication called Prabhupada Vani should be started for disseminating the news of all the branches of the Gaudiya Math and missions worldwide. Mahavir Swami agreed to take responsibility for the publication and asked that all the maths provide materials to be published.

The thorny problem of the annual procession at the time of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati's appearance day was tackled with little resolution. Last year another association of Gaudiya Math Vaishnavas held a procession on that occasion with the stipulation that only Srila Prabhupada Siddhanta Saraswati's picture was to be allowed. When some participants came with other pictures and banners, they were torn by zealous defenders of the rule. This led to heated exchanges and bad feelings.

Bhakti Bibudh Bodhayan, president and acharya of the Gopinath Gaudiya Math suggested a compromise solution of allowing Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati's disciples' picture on the main rath, but nowhere else.

Paramadwaiti Maharaj disagreed and said that each math should come out in full force with the pictures of their gurus and festoons and banners. "If we show how many different groups belong to this family of Saraswata Gaudiya Vaishnavas, how many saints and powerful preachers have come through this line in such a short time, then people will begin to grasp the importance of Saraswati Thakur's role in spreading Krishna consciousness. That he was the true root of this international movement which has had such an influence on Vrindavan today. All the disciples should be allowed to glorify their own gurus as vibhutis of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati."

Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur’s translation: O gopi, certainly she, for whom Sri Krishna had left all of us and took her alone to a secluded place, is a better servitor of Supreme Lord Sri Hari. The inherent purport is that since she is the crest jewel among the other female consorts of Sri Krishna, Her name is Sri Radhika.

In the Brihad-Gautamiya-Tantra the name of Sri Radharani is vividly explained –

Apart from these, the actual identity and glories of Sri Radhika are narrated in great detail in Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita by Srila Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami, in Govinda-lilamrita and scriptures compiled by the Goswamis.

A brief description about Sri Radharani from Sri Brahmavaivarta Purana is as under:
In the arena of highest divine mellow in the abode of Goloka She, who appeared from the left hand side of Sri Krishna and got attracted and ran towards Him, is known as ‘Radha’. Radha appeared from Sri Krishna and is His non-different manifestation. Hence She is dear-most to Sri Krishna. From the sweat pores of Sri Radharani million crores of cowherd girls and from the sweat pores of Sri Krishna, million crores of cowherd boys and cows appeared.

One time when Sri Krishna was engaged in pastimes with Sri Viraja, the messengers of Srimati Radharani went to Her and complained Her about this. Sri Radhika in an angry mood rushed towards Sri Krishna. Seeing this, Sudama, the associate of Sri Krishna, informed Him about the arrival of Srimati Radhika. Thinking that Radharani’s arrival at that place would turn the situation troublesome, Sri Krishna along with Sudama and other friends ran away from there. Viraja gave up her body and became a river. After reaching the place Radharani could not find anyone. Later when Sri Krishna met the eight principle gopis and Radharani, She chastised Him severely. When Sudama could not tolerate this and objected Her, She cursed him that he would take birth as a demon. Sudama also cursed Her in return, “ You will take birth in earthly planet falling from Goloka having to tolerate the intolerable separation from Sri Krishna.” Sudama became Shankacuda demon being cursed by Radharani.

The essence of the narration about the appearance of Sri Radharani as explained in Sri Radha Tantra is the following:
Lord Vasudeva once worshipped Yogamaya for a long duration when Yogamaya appeared and said, “ You cannot attain perfection by performing the penance alone without being accompanied by Lakshmidevi. The four garlands around my neck – Hastini, Padmini, Citrini and Gandhini are my messengers. The Padmini garland will be known as Radha in the abode of Vraja. Go to Vraja and meet Padmini. By this your penances will be successful.” After listening to the words of Yogamaya, Lord Vasudeva desired to see the form of Padmini. Immediately goddess Padmini appeared in front of Lord Vasudeva in an effulgent and reddish thousand petal lotus flower. Lord Vasudeva was surprised by beholding the form of Padmini. She (Padmini) only performed the pastime of appearing in the form of an egg in a Lotus flower in the river Kalindi.

King Vrishabhanu was engaged in the worship of Yogamaya on the banks of river Kalindi in order to get a beautiful baby. Yogamaya Katyayini, being satisfied by his worship, gave the aforementioned effulgent egg to king Vrishabhanu and said, “I am subdued by your wife’s devotion; give this egg to her. You will be blessed with a beautiful baby girl. As soon as Vrishabhanu placed the egg in front of his wife Kirtida, the egg broke and Sri Radharani appeared.

Regarding the appearance of Sri Radharani it is also said – by the fruit of the penances of king Vrishabhanu on the banks of river Yamuna, Radharani self-manifested on an unprecedented hundred petal lotus flower in Yamuna. Vrishbhanu was extremely pleased being blessed with a wonderful and most beautiful baby girl but saw that the eyes of the baby were closed. He was all the while unhappy internally for the baby being sightless. One day his friend king Nanda along with his wife Yasodadevi and the child Gopal came to his place. While Vrishabhanu was narrating his sorrow to king Nanda one surprising incident took place. Small Gopal crawled towards Radharani and touched Her. She immediately opened Her eyes. Radharani had taken a vow that she would see Krishna only when She opens Her eyes for the first time. Hence as soon as Krishna came She opened Her eyes.

The necessity to accept a bona fide Guru - Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaja

To obtain the knowledge about the Supreme Lord (knowledge that includes spontaneous loving service), a sincere aspirant desirous of eternal welfare should approach a bona fide Guru, expert in the conclusions of all the Vedas and steady in pure doctrines of devotion to Krishna, with offerings (gifts or honoraria) and surrender unto him with mind, body and speech.

Acharyavan purushoveda – Only to a person who had taken initiation from an acharya and performs devotional service to him will realize the Supreme Lord.

guru krishna-rupa han sastrera pramane
guru-rupe krishna kripa karena bhakta-gane
siksa-guruke ta’ jani krishnera svarupa
antaryami, bhakta-srestha,——ei dui rupa
(Chaitanya Charitamrita, Adilila, 1.45, 47)

According to the deliberate opinion of all revealed scriptures, the spiritual master is nondifferent from Krishna. Lord Krishna in the form of the spiritual master delivers His devotees. One should know the instructing spiritual master to be the Personality of Krishna. Lord Krishna manifests Himself as the Supersoul and as the greatest devotee of the Lord.

guravo bahavah santi sishya vittapaharakah
durlabhah sadgururdevi sishya santapa harakah

Oh Devi! There are many gurus who steal the wealth of the disciples but a bona fide guru who steals the miseries of the disciples is very rare.

kali-kale nama-rupe krishna-avatara
nama haite haya sarva-jagat-nistara
nama vinu kali-kale nahi ara dharma
sarva-mantra-sara nama, ei sastra-marma

In this Age of Kali, the holy name is the incarnation of Lord Krishna. In this Age of Kali there is no religious principle other than the chanting of the holy name, which is the essence of all Vedic hymns. This is the purport of all scriptures.

SRI SANATAN GOSWAMI

tai dusta man nirjana bhajana
pracaricha chale kuyogi-vaibhav
prabhu sanatane parama yatane
sikña dila yaha, cinta sei sab

So, wicked mind, you have deceptively been preaching nirjana-bhajana, the practice of bhajan in a lonely life, which is nothing more than a display, like that of a misleading yoga practitioner interested in the mystic powers. Study the teachings of the Lord to Sanatan very carefully and meditate upon them.

The holy life of Sree Sanatan Goswami comprising such brilliant teachings described in “Sree Chaitanya and Associates” needs to be followed whole-heartedly.

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur thus instructs us all to give great attention to the Lord’s teachings to Sanatan, or those teachings which he gave to the world through Sanatan Goswami.

Lavanga Manjari, who was previously very dear to Rupa Manjari, has become the worshipable Sanatan, who is non-different from Gaura himself. The jewel amongst sages, Sanatan Kumara, has also entered into him to fulfill a certain mission.

ramananda dvare kandarper darpa-nas
damodar dvare nirapeksha parakash
haridas-dvare sahishnuta janayila
sanatan rupa dvare dainya prakasila

Through Ramananda [the Lord] destroyed Cupid’s pride; through Svarupa Damodar he demonstrated detachment. Through Hari Das Thakur, he demonstrated forbearance and through Rupa and Sanatan Goswami, he taught humility.

sanatana kripay payinu bhaktir siddhanta
sri rupa kripay payinu bhati rasa pranta

Through Sanatan’s mercy, I learned the points of devotional doctrine, while through Rupa’s mercy, I learned about the divine devotional sentiments.

When Rupa and Sanatan met the Lord, they spoke to Him with extreme humility:

jagai-madhai haite koti koti guna
adhama patita papi ami dui jana
mleccha-jati, mleccha-sevi, kari mleccha-karma
go-brahmaëa-drohi-sange amara sangama
mora karma, mora hate-galaya bandhiya
ku-visaya-viñöha-garte diyache phelaiya
ama uddharite bali nahi tri-bhuvane
patita-pavana tumi——sabe toma vine

“We two are millions of times more degraded, fallen and sinful than Jagai and Madhai. We are of wicked birth because we are the servants of Muslims and our activities are exactly like those of the Muslims. We constantly associate with people who are inimical toward the cows and Brahmins. Due to our abominable activities we are now bound by the neck and hands and have been thrown into the ditch filled with the excrement of evil sense enjoyment. No one within the three worlds is sufficiently powerful to deliver us. You are the only savior of the fallen souls; therefore there is no one but You.” (Chaitanya Charitamrita 2.1.196-199)

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur has written the following comment: “Mahaprabhu showed his mercy to Dabir Khas and Sakar Mallik by giving them the spiritual names of Rupa and Sanatan, respectively.”

Mahaprabhu continued on as far as Kanair Natasala, but as he considered the wisdom of Sanatan’s advice, he decided to turn back, first going to Shantipur and then to Puri.

After Gaurhari and His entourage had given their mercy to Rupa and Sanatan, they left Ramakeli village.

Hussein Shah used to treat Sanatan Goswami as his younger brother and had great affection for him. But later the Shah became suspicious of Sanatan and had him put in prison. In an attempt to be relieved from jail Sanatan tried all the means to attract the favor of the jailkeeper. When the jail keeper still refused to let him go, Sanatan offered him a bribe of 5,000 rupees. At this, the jailkeeper’s resolve began to waver, but he was still afraid of being caught by the Badshah. Finally Sanatan had the grocer bring 7,000 rupees of the money which Rupa had left in his safekeeping and placed it directly in front of him. When he saw the money before him, the jailor became greedy and capitulated. He cut Sanatan’s chains and helped him to cross the Ganges.

In general, we consider flattery, asking return for a favor, putting temptation before someone, telling someone to lie, and bribery all to be unethical acts. Sanatan, however, used all the means at his disposal to escape bondage so that he could join the Lord and engage in his service. To achieve an auspicious end, any means may be permissible.

Sanatan had been prime minister, yet he escaped from jail with practically not a penny to his name. He did not take the main highway, but travelled as quickly as possible through fields and villages until he reached Patara Mountain, which is part of the Raj Mahal Hills in the Choöa Nagpur area in the state of Bihar. He did not know how to get across this mountain, and so requested the aid of a landowner who was also a robber chieftain. Accompanying Sanatan was a longtime personal servant named Isana. Through the help of a palmist, the landowner was able to know that Isana had eight gold coins in his possession, so he welcomed Sanatan into his home and treated him with great hospitality.

Sanatan was sufficiently experienced from his years in politics to become suspicious of the warm treatment he was getting from his host, and so he asked Isana whether he was carrying anything of value. Isana answered that he had seven gold coins, keeping his other coin a secret from him. Sanatan said, “Why have you brought this ruination upon us?” After gently chastising his servant in this way, he took the coins from him and gave them to his host, asking him to help him get across the mountain.

The landowner then revealed to Sanatan that he had known all along about the eight gold coins and that it had been his intention to murder them both that night somewhere on the mountain in order to take the money. He was very pleased that Sanatan had given him the gold and was even ready to return it to him, but Sanatan refused. He was intelligent enough to understand the adage: avyvasthita-cittasya prasado’pi bhayankaraù, “even the kindness of an undependable person is dangerous.”

dhurtasya vacane kvastha kvacit satyam kvacin mrisa |
kvacid raudram kvacid vristiù sravaëasya ghano yatha ||

How can one have faith in the words of a rascal? He sometimes tells the truth and sometimes falsehoods. Just as with the clouds of Shravan--sometimes there is sunshine and sometimes rain.

After they had crossed the mountain, Sanatan told Isana to take the remaining gold coin and return home. Isana had shown by his attachment to this gold coin that he was not yet ready to accept a life of renunciation, that he was too dependent on material conditions. When unqualified people take the renounced orders, then these orders themselves become contaminated. This is the lesson that Sanatan gave through his servant Isana.

After bidding good bye to Isana, Sanatan continued on his way until he arrived at Hajipur on the northern bank of the Ganges near Patna. Sanatan’s brother-in-law, Srikanta, made his home there. Though Srikanta invited him to stay there for a few days to recuperate from the voyage, Sanatan declined his invitation because of his desire to see the Lord. Srikanta gave him a valuable blanket of Bhutanese wool.

Sanatan then continued on to Benares where he was overjoyed to learn that Mahaprabhu was staying at the house of the physician, Chandrasekhara. Sanatan did not go straight into Chandrasekhara’s house but waited on his front porch. The Lord, the indweller of all souls, knew of his devotee’s arrival and sent Chandrasekhara to the door to invite him in. As soon as Sanatan entered, Mahaprabhu immediately rushed to embrace him. The meeting of the Lord with his devotee affected them both so intensely that they were overcome by the transformations of ecstatic love. In his affection for Sanatan, the Lord started to brush off the dust accumulated on his body from his travels, but this caused Sanatan to feel uncomfortable. He told the Lord not to touch him, but the Lord answered,

prabhu kahe,——“toma sparsi atma pavitrite
bhakti-bale para tumi brahmanda sodhite
toma dekhi, toma sparsi, gai tomara gun
sarvendriya-phala,——ei sastra-nirupan

“I touch you in order to purify myself. Your devotional force is so great that you can purify the entire universe. I look at you, I touch you and I sing your glories. By so doing, all my senses attain their most perfect use.” (Chaitanya Charitamrita 2.20.56,60)

Another legend told about Sanatan is the following. Once there was a very poor devotee of Shiva, whose name, according to the Bhaktamala and Gauòiya Vaisnava Abhidhana, was Sri Jivana Chakravarti. Originally from the village of Manakara in Burdwan district in Bengal, he had spent many years worshiping Shiva in Benares, praying to him for wealth. One night Shiva appeared to him in a dream and told him to go to Sanatan in Vrindavan, for he was in possession of a great wealth which he would share with him.

The poor Brahmin immediately set off for Vrindavan where he found Sanatan deep in meditation. However, when he saw the Goswami, thin and dressed in a dirty loincloth, he began to doubt that he could give him the desired riches. Even so, he told Sanatan about the dream. Sanatan answered saying that he lived by begging a few crumbs from a number of different houses, how could he possibly give him the riches he desired?

The poor Brahmin was disappointed and turned away, thinking that perhaps the message Shiva had given him in the dream had just been an illusion. Meanwhile, Sanatan pondered why Shiva had sent the Brahmin to him. As he ruminated, he remembered a touchstone that was lying in a pile of rubbish and had long since been covered in dust. As soon as he remembered the existence of this valuable jewel, he sent someone to fetch the Brahmin and told him to take the jewel from the rubbish heap. When the Brahmin saw the touchstone, he was overjoyed and thought, now there will be no one as rich as I in the entire world! After walking some distance away, however, he began to wonder why Sanatan had completely forgotten about such a valuable possession. Indeed, if he cared so little for the touchstone, he must have something even more valuable. Perhaps he had been cheated! He wanted to know what riches Sanatan possessed that he cared so little for the touchstone.

The Brahmin quickly went back to Sanatan and expressed his doubts, asking him if he had anything more valuable in his possession. Then Sanatan told him that there was no greater wealth than love for Krishna and that material goods were insignificant and simply a cause of greater distress. The Brahmin then bowed his head and prayed to Sanatan to please give him the wealth which made him consider even a touchstone insignificant. Sanatan was moved by his prayer and mercifully bestowed upon him the riches of Krishna-prema.

"Save the Yamuna" cyclists reach Vrindavan

Vrindavan, 2011.08.17 (AU, VT) : The “Yamuna Bachao” bicyle yatra that is continuing to spread the message of the Yamuna’s polluted condition arrived in Vrindavan on Wednesday. They were welcomed in many places in town. They crossed the bridge at Pani Gaon and were greeted by a delegation of devotees and farmers from the Vrindavan area. They were welcomed at the Pancha-mukhi Hanuman temple on the Parikrama Marg by Mahant Kashi Dasji.

From there the cyclists went through Atal Van to the Tarash Mandir where they were welcomed by Pt. Udayan Sharma, who also happens to be the U.P. state secretary of the Anti Corruption Front.

Brij Rakshini Harinam Sankirtan Pracharini Sabha president Jay Krishna Das said that there has still been no meaningful attempt to clean up the Yamuna pollution. “Until that happens our movement will remain active,” he said. “All Brijvasis must come together and cooperate with this movement.”

State BKU (Bhanu) leader Bhanu Pratap Singh said that villagers living along the Yamuna no longer use even a drop of its water for any purpose, because it gives off a bad smell. “The members of the farmers’ union are ready to sacrifice their lives if necessary for the sake of the Yamuna River,” he said.

They then proceeded to the ISKCON Gurukula, where they were welcomed by Radha Vinoda Das, the manager, before moving on to the Sita Ram Ashram in Ral, where they were greeted by Mahant Sukhadev Das.

The cyclists will head to Mathura railway grounds on Aug. 21, where they will hold a Maha Panchayat (“Great Council”), to which they are inviting as many people as possible to attend. According to Radha Jivan Dasji, they are expecting two lakhs of people in attendance, including the children of the ISKCON Gurukula.

A new WVA meeting is being held in Mexico Vrinda Yatra

WVA vice-president Srila Bhakti Vicar Visnu Maharaja addressed the meeting with wonderful words. He compared that dividing the Vaisnavas by rejecting others who preach the same message you do is the process which will spoil our own approach to Lord Krishna.

Durlabha Prabhu spoke about the importance of helping each other in Mexico.

Swami Paramadvaiti spoke about the importance of WVA to protect all missions and have the general public see Vaisnavas as a world religion: "New centers are opening of different Vaisnava missions. We consider that a great success of the mission given by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Visnu Maharaj had been invited by a governor of Nuevo Leon to assist the government in resolving many problems as an adviser. If we stand together on joint needs we will be able to touch more hearts. Even the secretary of the governor of Zakateca requested Maharaja to stay more time that he would arrange permanent visa for him. If the vaisnavas quarrel with each other in the temples or in between missions we will only create offense and the material desires will increase again. Be pure and give the example to others."

Bhaktivedanta Parivrajaks Maharaja spoke about the local mission. Coming from Chile he compared that even things are more difficult in Mexico the people receive the message very spontaneously. Morelia Yatra has been given a chance to speak about drugs in the university where many people including teachers are consumers of drugs under the title Yoga against drugs people get new ideas about life. Healing sounds was the key ingredient to help people heal from addiction.

Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja from Vrinda Mexico spoke about the need of preaching with quality: "Our meeting from time to time is the loving relationship. We have a good intention to solve the real problems of this world and we honor all Vaisnavas."

Some discussion was about the Ratha Yatra festival of Mexico. Kali Maharaja creates quarrel amongst devotees to stop the preaching. As a solution it was decided to organize a new united Vaisnava festival. Avoiding the conflict area and let the Ratha Yatra continue by the mission who wants to do it without other missions’ participation.

Bhakti Vicar Visnu Maharaja said to harmonize: "Prahlad Maharaja endured so much difficulties but Lord Narasingadeva waited such a long time before he appeared personally. The same happened to the Pandavas, but when time came, Krishna drove the chariot to their victory. Following the example of Nityananda Prabhu we should forgive those who offend."

The meeting went to the Sri Sri Radha Madhava Mandir for giving talks to the visiting Vaisnavas and celebrate with mahaprasad for all devotees. Local chapter meetings of the WVA give joy to the local Vaisnava community.

There was a king whose prime minister was a great devotee. He always used to provide solace for others and pacify persons who came to him for help with their worldly troubles. He used to say, “You should not be disturbed or disheartened. You do not know what you did in your past life. You do not know what you will do in the future. So by seeing this present loss you should not be disturbed. There should have been a greater loss but by the Grace of Sri Krishna it has been reduced. It is all for the best! It is all for the best! Don’t be disheartened”.

Once, the king went to hunt in the forest along with his prime minister and other soldiers. In ancient times kshatriyas used to go to jungles for hunting. While roaming in the jungle the soldiers became separated from the king and the prime minister. While the king and his prime minister were moving separately through the jungle the king saw a beast. The king shot an arrow to kill the beast but by mistake the arrow went through his thumb. The finger was cut and there was profuse bleeding. Out of pain he was expressing his sorrow, “I am supposed to always fight. My thumb, which is vital for archery, is cut. It is a great loss.” The prime minister tried to pacify him, saying “You do not know what you did in your past life and you do not know what you will do in the future. There should have been a greater loss but by the Grace of Sri Krishna it is reduced. So you should not worry.”

But the king was enraged and said “My finger is cut and it is bleeding profusely. It is a serious loss to me but you are saying whatever is done by the Supreme Lord is good for me. You can advise me but if suffering comes to you and I advise you in the same way, what will you think?” The Prime minister replied, “It is applicable to all. Krishna takes care of everybody. A greater loss has been saved.”The king was furious and thought “I will teach you.” He continued walking with the prime minister through the jungle when he saw a well in the distance, covered with bushes and grass. Taking his prime minister the king went near the well and all of a sudden he pushed the prime minister into it. The king said “Whatever is done by the Lord is for your good.” The prime minister said, “Yes without His will you cannot push someone into the well. It is His desire that you push me. Trust me! Trust me! Since He is all good it is for the best.”

The king challenged “Where is your God? I am here and you are there, where is your God? If I leave this place will He rescue you?”

The prime minister replied from the well “If Hari protects someone then nobody can kill him and if Hari wants to kill someone then nobody can protect him. They have no power.”

The king said “Oh! You haven’t given up your dog mentality. So, you can stay here and you can die here.” When a person becomes enraged their mind becomes disturbed and at this time the king’s mind was disturbed.

In that jungle there were many robbers. They used to worship goddess Kali to bring about the fulfilment of their robbery. They had just been successful in a robbery and wanted to sacrifice a man to goddess Kali for her satisfaction. They brought a pujari and asked him to perform puja and they went out to find a man for offering. They soon found the king and they thought, “Goddess Kali is so gracious! She has sent man to us and we did not even have to go to the village or the town.”

The dacoits surrounded the king, arrested him and tied him up. Then they they took him to the pujari for sacrifice. According to the religious rules the king needed to be bathed before being sacrificed. So the king was first taken to a tank and bathed and then he was taken to the pujari. Just as the pujari was about to sacrifice the king he saw that the king’s thumb was seriously injured and bleeding. If an injured person is sacrificed the result will be reversed. So, the pujari told the robbers “If this man is sacrificed the result will be bad because he is injured.”

The robbers exclaimed “Oh no! This spoils all our efforts and money. Release this person. Get out!”

When the King finally made his way back to his own capital he started to realise that what the prime minister had said was correct. “If my thumb had not been injured my life would have been finished. So I have committed a great offense to my prime minister. Now I don’t know if he is alive or not! I did a terrible thing out of anger!” So he immediately ordered his army of soldiers to go and rescue the prime minister.

When they arrived near the well they found the prime minister sitting on the grass chanting Harinam. By the Lord’s Grace he had not suffered much. When he was brought back to the kingdom the king bowed down, explained what had happened to him and said. “I have committed a great offense, please excuse me.”

“No! No! It's OK. You have acted according to God’s desire and because of that I have benefited. By pushing me in the well you actually saved my life. If I had been with you the dacoits would have sacrificed me instead. We did not know what we did in the past and what we will do in the future. So we cannot see the adjustment.”

Whatever is done, is done by the will of the Supreme Lord and it is for the good of all. ‘tat te ‘nukampam sushamiksa mano’ (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.14.8). If you can see His Grace in every circumstance then you can attain Him. If you are disturbed then you cannot. ‘tat te ‘nukampa sushamiksa mano’. If you can see things as they are then you will see God's Grace in every circumstance.

We are reaping the fruits of our own actions, so we should not blame others for our misfortune. We are all reaping the fruits of our own actions. As you sow, so shall you reap.

If humans are to be considered non-eternal then how is it that they desire eternal existence, knowledge and bliss? Human beings devoid of the attributes of existence, knowledge and bliss, logically cannot express the desire to live in this world eternally, to attain complete knowledge and complete bliss.

Beyond the existence of the physical body, a human being can directly feel the existence of mind, intellect and perverted ego. As the human being is of a finite nature, it naturally follows that his mental and intellectual capacity will also be finite. The existence of perverted ego can be perceived by the presence of specific thoughts such as thinking that one belongs to this or that country; this or that religion; that one speaks this or that language or belongs to this or that group – whatever it may be. It may be questioned whether after death of the physical body there is the existence of any such nationalist, religious or language groups—in fact, it may be pertinent to ask whether everything is destroyed or if there is the existence of a subtle body consisting of mind, intelligence and perverted ego or even beyond that, the existence of an eternal entity.

Among the created living beings of this world, the human birth is best due to endowment of the special quality of power of discrimination between good and bad and eternal and non-eternal. Physical bodies are in the grip of numerous births and deaths, and are subject to many other drawbacks. This renders physical body to being non-eternal. If this physical body is non-eternal then the body’s sense organs must also be non-eternal and whatever is perceived by non-eternal sense organs must also be non-eternal. Therefore, if there should be any eternal entity, it must exist beyond the comprehension of human material non-eternal sense organs.

Best suited example would be Sri Arjuna of Mahabharata. He was blessed with divine eyes, so that he may watch the Virat form of Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. Millions were present in that battle of Kurukshetra when Sri Krishna exhibited His Virat form, still Arjuna was the only one to see Him like that. Why was that?

Because Supreme Lord is infinite, everything about Him is infinite. He has created countless species, planets, etc as per His plan. If one accepts that human beings can determine their own cause by means of material senses, material mind or material intellect then that will be a mentally or intellectually concocted thing. That will not be a Reality. If Reality is in fact Reality, then He must always exist. Hence we are to find the way to realize the Truth.

We need to learn that why we always look to live eternally, why we always thrive to learn more and why we want bliss? We being part and parcel of Supreme Lord are like Him within limits. He is Sacchidananda and so are we. Sat-chit-ananda together makes Sacchidananda. Sat in Sanskrit means eternal life, chit in Sanskrit means eternal knowledge and ananda in Sanskrit means eternal bliss. In Sreemad Bhagwad Geeta Supreme Lord explains us that we are actually a soul. Soul is sacchidananda.

We were given this limited body so that we should realize that we are sacchidananda and we should thrive to realize our true identity. Our duty is not to hanker after the temporary bliss, but to have eternal bliss. We have to find the ways to realize this true identity of ours and become servants of Sacchidananda. Since we are part and parcel of Supreme Lord, we come from Him, hence it is our primary task to serve Him or to act in a fashion which pleases Him. Once we begin to realize this eternal truth, we will realize Him. Once we realize Him, we will realize other eternal truths, and then we will realize that not only He but His Associates do not take birth, but descends. Once all this happens, then there is no doubt that instead of taking birth, we will descend with Him, when He asks us to, while staying as a Reality. Choice is yours.....

Battle for the Yamuna Makes Waves in Delhi.

After a month-and-a-half-long march in protest of the pollution of the sacred river Yamuna, thousands of sadhus, Krishna devotees, and environmentalists have made huge waves in the political scene and brought the attention of the Indian public to the plight of what has been called a "dead river."

But they have also realized that they could be in this fight for the long haul, as the Yamuna's degradation is a deep-rooted, complicated problem.

Back in April, ISKCON News reported that one thousand people had marched from Allahabhad, where the Yamuna meets the Ganges, to the common protest ground of Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

They were headed by sadhu and environmentalist Ramesh Babaji and members of his Maan Mandir organization, Bhanu Pratap Singh, head of the 100,000 strong Bhartiya Kisan Farmer's Union, and ISKCON devotee and businessman Radha Jivan Dasa.

On April 15th one thousand protestors camped out in the street, completely taking it over with tents, vehicles, water tankers, and cooking equipment, despite protests from the police.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi—president of the Indian National Congress Party—had heard of the major Dharana (demonstration) and immediately invited its leaders to a meeting.

Bhanu Pratap Singh, Radha Jivan, Maan Mandir devotee Sri Krishna Dasa, and a local MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) representing them, all presented her with their complaints and demands.

The Yamuna has been on a steep decline since 1962, they explained, and the situation has never been remedied, despite a Supreme Court order demanding action from the government in 1992.

Currently, the Yamuna emerges clean from Yamunotri, its source in the Himalayas. But after eighty-five per cent of it is held back by an irrigation dam in the state of Haryana, and Delhi City sewage and industrial waste is emptied into it, there is barely a drop of original Yamuna water left by the time it reaches Vrindavana, Lord Krishna's birthplace.

Both the states of Haryana and Delhi come under Sonia Gandhi's jurisdiction. The protestors demanded that waste dumping be reduced and that 80,000 million litres of the water being held back by the dam be released.

"She gave us half an hour of her time, and listened closely," says Radha Jivan Dasa. "When we had finished, she told us that she would pass on the matter to the Water Resource and Environment Ministers, and that something would definitely be done about it. True to her word, she spoke to the ministers, and we received meetings with them also. When we spoke to them, however, it became clear that this was not going to be easy."

While he acknowledged that holding back the water was wrong—and in fact a federal violation—Water Minister Salman Khurshid told the group that any Haryana or Delhi politicians who released it would immediately lose their seats. And with good reason. Cities, farms, food production—the lives of thousands of people rested on this 'stolen water.' Years after a thoughtless mistake, an entire infrastructure rested on it that would take all the government's best minds and resources to fix.

Representatives of the Save River Yamuna movement declared that on the very second day after their arrival in Delhi, the unprecedented foot march and demonstration held by Maan Mandir Sewa Sansthan had been successful in its short term objectives. They said that the government has agreed in principle to release more water into the Yamuna River so that there will be an adequate natural water flow for its entire length.

The marchers reached the outskirts of Delhi on April 13 after more than a month on the road. There were immediate signs that the march had succeeded in drawing the attention of the Central Government and its ministers. Pradeep Mathur, MLA (local representative of government) for Mathura-Vrindavan, took them to see Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, the Congress Party’s Chairperson. Ms. Gandhi assured them that their demands would be given due consideration.

This was followed by a 90 minute meeting with the Minister of Environment, Jairam Ramesh, and then another with Shri Salman Khurshid, Minister for Water Resources. They were granted patient hearings and received firm assurances that their demands would be met.

On discussion, however, participants in the Padayatra unanimously decided to go ahead with firm protests, as mere assurances from the Government were not deemed sufficient.

The Padayatra entered the city of Delhi a day before schedule. There was a lot of excitement and commotion on the first day. A press conference was held at the Press Club of India and the marchers recounted their experiences of the tough and eye-opening journey over the 750 kms they had walked along the banks of River Yamuna. They also talked about their demands and the response of various ministers and government officials over them.

The 15th of April saw tremendous action. At around 9 o’clock sankirtan marked the beginning (Shri Baba Maharaj says everything is incomplete without Harinaam) of the eventful public meeting. Jay Kishan Das Baba began the proceedings of speeches to a crowd of some 2000 people. Many farmers representing various districts along the Yamuna presented their views.

Srila Gurudev addresses western devotees in Sri Mayapur: We should not be disappointed by the happenings of the world and give up our Bhajana. This world is the place of turmoil and disturbances caused by the illusory energy of Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. Only a completely surrendered soul can emancipate himself from the grit of illusory energy and can surmount the ocean of births and deaths — threefold afflictions. We are to practise six-fold saranagati which is the basis of devotional life. Without saranagati , there cannot be Bhakti.

The root cause of the disease is to be eradicated, otherwise undesirable symptoms will crop up.

Hence, the root cause of all troubles, repugnance to Sri Krishna, is to be removed. We are averse to Sri Krishna from time immemorial. This averseness cannot be removed all of a sudden. It may require thousands of births or one birth. Even Ambarish Maharaja, the great devotee, could conquer all material desires gradually. Nothing can be achieved all of a sudden.

'Sadhya' — ultimate blissful spiritual existence — cannot be attained without 'Sadhana'. Association of bona fide real Sadhus is essential for spiritual enhancement.

To the first meeting of the year assisted sanyasis, brahmacaries and representatives of the differents asrams, headers by His Divine Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj, president of the World Vaisnava Association and Acarya of the Sree Caitanya Gaudiya Math. Srila Tirtha Maharaj emphasized the importance of the establisment by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupada and continued by the form of the WVA.

Mangala Caran was directed by Sripad Rasananda Bon Maharaj, after completion began to question differents points of the work of the WVA:
1- Was officially launched the new edition of the World Vaisnava Association’s magazine in a new special edition called: "WVA portrait" that looks portray the work of the WVA in the last fifteen years.

2-Discussed about the importance of the protection to Sri Mayapur Dham, so much as in a ecological way (keeping the cleaning of its streets and asrams) as an spiritual way (promoting the vaisnavas values inside the Dham)

The project of cleaning the Dham is in charge of the organization Friends of Mayapur (directed by Goura Hari Das) and supported by the committed of environment of the World Vaisnava Association. Thanks to the support of Sripad Padmanabha Maharaj of Sree Caitanya Gaudiya Math in Mayapur, was achieve a land to deposit all the plastic wasted of the Dham. At the same time, Prisni Dasi of Jahnavi Kunj Gaudiya Math along with an stable team, make daily cleaning by the main street of Mayapur and by the different asrams; and Friends of Mayapur collects this wasted and reorganizes in the local dump.

Also was presented a new poster of protection to the Dham which was approved by the audience.

3- An important point in the meeting was stablishing a joint project of recognition to the figure of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupada to a national and international level. Sripad Bhakti Prasun Mahasudhan Maharaj spoke about the importance of the figure of Srila Prabhupada to human kind and he made the request to join in this effort.

Finally, Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj granted his darshan for over half an hour, devoted entusiastic words to the meaning of the Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha and made the official presentation of the new Issue of the WVA.

Srila Tirtha Maharaj also enjoy the projection of the movie "Little Krishna".

Srila Gurudev and the sevaks are back in Kolkata after a 15 day Mayapur trip. Srila Gurudev spoke Harikatha on 2 occasions and gave darsan to near about 2500 devotees on two days. There was Harinam and Diksa ceremonies also conducted. Also Srila Gurudev took part in the annual general body meeting, addressed about 100 foreign devotees and inspired them by speaking Harikatha, participated in WVA meeting, took part in Nagar Sankirtan, sent representation to BVSCT meeting in ISKCON Mayapur, gave darsan on several occasions to foreign devotees and Indian devotees. Behind all these we could only witness transcendental power of Srila Gurudev. It is beyond the capacity of any ordinary human being to perform such wonderful activities at this advanced age. Srila Gurudev is again and again showing us that He is the God's Man.

Srila Gurudev will speak Harikatha on Sri Papavimocani Ekadasi on March 30, 2011 (Wednesday) at 8.00 PM. Harikatha will be webcast onwww.sreecgmath.org. English translation on the right channel.
